Less is more

A theme that constantly shows up in my work is that of saying the most with the least. I love the abstract expressionist art movement where gesture was a powerful way of expressing oneself. I also love the art of Joan Miro whose paintings have long been an inspiration for using a minimalist approach.

Minimalism is hard. The image below I exhibited in a group show many years back and often wonder how people viewed it. I’m particularly fond of it, I think there is a simple tension at play which is enjoyable for the brain to view. I think it nears a place I am aiming for in my work which is saying the most with the least.
