Presence

I was recently alone in the Macedon ranges forest on a very wintery, cold and fog ladened day. I was looking for mushrooms to photograph and was buzzing at the atmosphere the weather generated. So quiet, peaceful and the type of environment I crave to ponder life’s deeper questions.

A flash of colour drew my attention off the trail into the forests edge where I found this very small Ganesh statue. I was instantly drawn out of my inner world and felt like someone was now aware of my presence into this place that had absorbed my presence like a cloak.

Ganesh is my favourite of the Hindu deities, I have one as a clay sculpture at home. Ganesh is known as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom, new beginnings, and good fortune. The invasion of my peace and the feeling of being alone was replaced with a glow that recognised that others felt a reverence for this beautiful peaceful place.
