Photography as meditation

Photography as an act can be meditative. I never really thought about it in this way until more recently, in light of becoming a daily meditation practitioner over the past 8 years.

When fully engaged in a pursuit of some kind we can achieve a flow state where time becomes irrelevant and the act isn’t thought about and instead becomes intuitive. As a photographer of thirty years experience, I rely almost solely on this intuition when it comes to looking for an image and the technical requirements to bring it to life. This allows for a flow state, the ability to lock into a groove where I simply trust my stream of consciousness. Letting go becomes important, just like meditation where instead of engaging in thought, you acknowledge it exists and simply let it go. Much easier said than done.
